There were some good results for Armidale riders in the Coffs to Coffs race on Sunday 26 July. In a repeat of last year’s result Geoff Straub won the 100km A grade race. In a smallish field of 15 or so riders, Geoff broke from the main bunch with another rider and was too strong at the finish.
Cody Burton was second in the U17 race, coming in behind a strong Port Macquarie rider.
Six riders entered B grade, including Pat Ainsworth, Mitch Bullen, Mick Hoult, Pat McMillan, John Scott-Hamilton and Peter Wilkinson. Best performed was John, who got away from the pack into a small group and managed to nab fourth place.
Lachie McPhie flew the flag in C grade and by all accounts acquited himself well without troubling the scorer.
In D grade it was good to see a couple of Rockvale Road men in Peter Creagan and Phil Thomas riding strongly. Pete won the first KOM sprint and Phil the second, with the former winning the overall KOM title (expect to see him in polka-dots this weekend). In the finish Pete got third place while Phil was fifth.
