State racing update - September 09

September 9th, 2009 · No Comments

A number of riders have been competing in State events over the last few weeks.

Mitch Bullen was most successful, winning the Sydney Winter Track Championships held at the Dunc Grey Velodrome on 22 August.

Next up was the Inverell Junior Tour on 29-30 August, with Mitch 2nd and Pat Ainsworth 4th in the U19’s. Ben Castle and Brent Weston were 12th and 13th in a quality field in the U17’s, and Gil Burgess was 12th in the U15’s. Sam Jenner took on the U13’s, finishing in 8th place. Well done to all those who had a go at this new event.

Then on 5 September, Mick Hoult, Col Maciver, John Scott-Hamilton, and Phil Thomas competed in the 136km Inverell to Moree handicap.

Phil was in the second group to start, with the others in the following groups. With a couple of other riders, Phil managed to catch the leaders 30km from the finish, only to be be swallowed up by the main bunch with the rest of the Armidale troops 15km out.

Phil managed to hang on to this group, and was the best placed Armidale rider finishing in 10th place. A good ride in a tough race.
