Round 2 of the Club Championships, featuring A, B, and C grade criteriums was held on 31 May.
The day started off with C grade racing 15 minutes + 1 lap. In a very close finish Lasse Mikkelsen (who had cunningly saved himself in the junior races run beforehand) just pipped Gillian Backhouse on the line. Angus Swan and Cody Burton closely followed in 3rd and 4th places respectively, with John Bentley rounding out the top 5. Mark Bullen finished just out of the points in 6th place, and vowed to train harder before the next race.
After two rounds, Gillian and Lasse are tied for first place on 9 points, with a big lead over the rest of the field.
B grade then raced 20 minutes + 1 lap, with the pack again staying together until the finish. Peter Creagan found a very big gear down the straight to take the win from Mick Sozou, Reece O’Hara, Dave Jenner, and Wilfried Keller.
Reece has a handy lead on 8 points from PC on 5.
In the final race of the day, A grade rode for 30 minutes + 2 laps. At the half way point, Geoff Straub and Mitch Bullen broke away from the pack with characteristic speed. Dave Munday and Mitch Sozou tried to bridge the gap, but ended up going back to the pack.
Mitch Bullen showed his impressive sprinting ability to take 1st place with Geoff in 2nd. Ole Mikkelsen lead the rest of the pack home to finish in 3rd place just ahead of Dave Munday, with Nick Myhill in 5th.
Geoff now takes the lead in the series with 8 points, with the two Mitch’s on 5 apiece.

Apart from that, the highlight of the day was Wilko showing up on his brand new Colnago.
