Racing on the Continent

Currently racing with the Drapac Porsche team in Belgium, Peter McDonald is finding out just how tough the competition in European is. Nevertheless the team has notched up some impressive results, with Peter recently finishing second in the 170km GP Melle last Thursday, 10 July.

With his team controlling the race, Peter broke away 10km from the finish but was joined by a rider from another team who ended up winning the two man sprint finish. See the Drapac web site for the full race report.

Meanwhile, the other race going on in France has as usual been fascinating viewing on SBS (although I’m getting a bit sick of Skoda ads). One of the most impressive riders has been British sprinter Mark Cavendish with two stage wins set up by his team Columbia.

Cavendish seems to have the right attitude, having said after his stage win into Toulouse  “I worked in a bank when I was younger, and I don’t mind whether it’s raining or whether it’s too hot … as long as I can ride my bike I’m the luckiest man in the world”.

The English team cricket might have to get him as a motivational speaker before the next Ashes series!
