Scorching heat and wind greeted the competitors in Saturday’s 30km graded scratch races that were held on the Dangarsleigh Road. In less than ideal conditions the riders put their bodies on the line to go the distance, and they rode the course in good time.
As numbers were slightly down due to the hot conditions there were only two grades, with A grade having a sprint to the line at the finish. The winner of the sprint finish was Rob Tindale just ahead of Andrew Kirk, whose Movember mustache clearly wasn’t ideal for the hot conditions. Another mustachioed rider Bill Mara was the next to finish and he was followed home by the fresh faced Brent Weston.
The field of B grade was very spread out, with Bob Weston riding away from all of his opponents. Although starting slowly he kept the pressure on the rest of the riders and was able to finish well ahead of the field. It was a close finish for the minor placings, with Peter Creagan coming in just ahead of Cameron Scott and Ashley Saint.
Junior numbers were also down for their racing at the criterium course, but they all performed well, with personal bests in the one lap time trial of 1:49(!) for Kyle O’Hara, 2:03 for Sam Jenner, and 2:32 for Lachie Harris.
