Racing was held in less than ideal conditions on the Dangarsleigh Road on Saturday 12 December. With bushfires burning near Armidale, the air was a heavy blue from the smoke, and this was not the best for the riders lungs.
But even so there was a good turnout of riders who braved the conditions to compete in a 30km handicap race. With 11 minutes separating the first riders to the scratch markers, it proved too great a difference for the scratch markers to make up, and as a result it was riders from the first few groups out who took the line honours.
It was Bob Murison who proved to be too strong for the rest of the field. He came in on his own to record a well deserved win. He was followed home by Mark Haden and then Dave Rubie.
