Racing on 14 August was a 30km handicap on Long Swamp, with riders from the scratch group filling the first three placings. Col Maciver won the race from Brent Weston in second and John Scott-Hamilton in third.
The group started from 10 minutes, picking up the 9 minute block group just after the first turnaround. The 8 minute group swept up the leading riders at the half way mark. The race came together just after the final turn, with a large group heading for the decisive climb past Imbota Forest. The climb dislodged a few riders but it was still a largish group which made it to the hill at the finish.
After an early attack by Pat McMillan, Brent set off at speed, but went just a bit too early. Col then showed his excellent form with a very fast acceleration to take the win just ahead of Brent who hung on for second from John who was closing fast.
