Five Star Best Weston

Brent “Best” Weston goes hard early to win the A grade criterium, Phil “Keglegs” Thomas wins B grade.

The Cannibal, looking slightly dog-eared chose to run the race rather than participate (precluded by his choice of wheels anyway, a very funky looking TT bike) – so thanks John!

The A grade pace was hard from the start with Ice Cold Billy Mara and Britt Sisson being casualties at around the half way mark, Billy refused to give up circulated until the bell anyway, with Britt latched to his wheel like a uni student to a bar.

Brent leapt from the pack early on the closing lap, chased by Iron Mick Hoult and young Greg Mantten.  Mick yelled incomprehensible things at Greg for most of the final straight which encouraged Greg into second place.  Spectators were unsure whether it was Mick’s words of encouragement or whether Greg was so frightened of the madman behind him he didn’t want to get caught.

B/C grade ran a combined race dominated by Phil “Keglegs” Thomas, the surging pace of Bob “Meat Hammer” Murison and an in-form Wilf “Helen” Keller.  Ray Phillips hung on doggedly only to be torn off shortly after Freya Weston charged up the climb to lift the pace at the 18 minute mark (which blew “Ralph” Rubie, “Boundy” Boundy and Jackie Weston out the back long before Ray gave up).  Keglegs sprinted hard to overcome Hayden “Rim Tape” Freeman and Adam Bourke who didn’t quite have the stomping power required to win.

The cannibal – looking like something took a bite out of him.
