The dog ate my homework

I swear!

Sam Jenner brings home 3rd in the Junior Mens 17A category at the Tamworth 2 day junior tour last weekend, Freya Weston was 6th in the JW17 category and even more stuff happened than that!

The cannibal has made a stunning comeback in last weekends criterium, a combined handicap affair that saw A and C start together with C having a lap in hand, and B grade starting by themselves because they smell and to give them half a lap handicap.

The cannibal hung on for grim death as “Gregatron” Greg Mantten put in lap after lap of pain, only to lose the lot in a final sprint with Mark “Haydo” Haydon in third.  Stunning effort from Haydo there who not only managed to hang with the big dogs after being caught but featuring in the sprint.  There may be some advantage to coating your lower lip completely in zinc cream after all.

On the following Sunday, an intrepid crew of Andrew “Swanny” Swan, Ice Cold Billy Mara, Pat McMillan, Rob Tindale and Captain “Kirky” Kirk,  billed as “Captain Kirk and the Klingons” managed 3rd…last in the Mauri Kautto Team Time Trial.  I am surprised they weren’t billed as “The single entity known as RobKirk and those other guys” but I’m no good with names.

As Swanny relates:

third in the masters cstegory.

third last that is! came in 2 minutes after our nominated time of 2.45, so 2.47.

we were looking good to break the 2.17 record until the 70km mark, until we lost pat who had been contributing well until then. after we lost him we kind of died in the [rear end].

still had a great time though, and I would say the ride of the day went to billy mara who struggled early but came good in the later stages.

even if we had beaten 2.17 we probably wouldn’t have won because the budget forklifts team showed up and did 2.09!!!! mind you,  they had fancy tt bikes and [er, pointy] tt helmets. and they did a 50km warm down ride after the race while we were having a couple of schooners (just to prime kirkie for the trip home)
