With the track in bad shape, Long Swamp beckoned for scratch racing. Harrison “H” Munday edging Sam “The Jennerator” Jenner, leaving the A grade seniors gasping even with a 1 minute handicap.
Andrew “Kirkie” Kirk, Andrew “Swanny” Swan and Dave “Next” Munday fought over the scraps for third place with Kirkie taking the last podium place.
B grade saw Phast Phil “Keglegs” Thomas use his best weapon – he must make about the same power as Liddell power station (and probably produces an equivalent in greenhouse gases too). He rode away from B grade with only Freya Weston brave enough to try to bridge across. Her efforts were in vain though as she only made it half way, an organised B grade bunch with Wilko calling the shots hauled both of them in then spat a spent Freya out the back. Holly Harris won the race from Phast Phil with Wilko into third. Roger “Last” Munday did nothing in B grade, best to ask Wilko why.
C grade only had 4 starters (Ray Philips, Dave “Ralph” Rubie, Jacky Weston and Jack Parker). Ray bolted from the line and attempted to latch onto the back of B grade only to blow himself to pieces on the first Imbota climb. Jacky and Jack nursed Ralph over the hill so they could use his bulk as a shield from the wind on the flat parts of the course, with Jack finally disappearing into the distance on the final dump climb with Jacky in his wake. Great ride from Jack. Ralph made it home before sunset (as reported by the ever kind Wilf Keller).
