You might think from the lack of results on the web site lately that not much has been happening. But in fact June has been a very successful month for ACC riders.
On the long weekend Sam Jenner won the U17M division of the Tamworth Junior Tour, and will no doubt be looking forward to the NSW Junior Championships in Inverell in late July.
Then on Saturday 15 June, a number of riders made the trip over to Inverell for their annual interclub road race, the “Macca’s Gilgai to Bundy and back” road race (now there’s a name that rolls off the tongue!). This was a new course for 2013, and a bit easier than Ashford Road which has been used over the last few years.
It was a highly successful day for ACC, with four of our new members in the money: Andrew White got up for the win, with Chris Pittman 6th, Ky Ho 9th, and Jeff Flatt 10th. Great work guys! Special mentions to Jo Waugh who finally got to race over her preferred distance of 70km, and Wilfried Keller who looked after Andrew and Ky in the winning bunch. Also impressive was Kirkie who attacked the scratch bunch 2km from the finish in a brave but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to get back the 8 minutes he needed to win fastest time. He managed to build up a lead of almost 2 seconds before being brought back into the bunch.
Finally, Dave Rugendyke finished 8th in the Sundowner Coonabarabran – Gunnedah handicap last weekend. Given that the race came together 20km from Gunnedah, and a huge bunch arrived at the finish this was an excellent effort from Dave. The winner was Dylan Sunderland from Inverell, who has been showing some excellent form of late.
Dave is off to Belgium this week for three months racing on a team with Mitch Carrington from Tamworth. Should be a great experience, and we wish him all the best.
