Dangars 30K Handicap Results

Riders racing on Dangarsleigh Road  this weekend were greeted with warm sunshine but also blustery cross-winds which slowed progress on the return legs with the field strung out over the course in small groups throughout.

The Go group of Dave Jenner and Pete and Katherine Hosking made good progress and were still leading the field at the half-way mark. The 3 minute group of Bob Murison, Chris Stace, Jo Waugh, Peter and Richard Wilkinson decided that Canny Col’s handicapping gave them an unfair advantage at the first turn and carried on further up the hill past Houlty’s magical disappearing cones, adding another 1.5KM to their first lap.  Everyone else appreciated this gesture but elected to turn at the normal point.

The charging 10m:30s group of 5 had shed Jack Parker and Rob Hale before the half-way point with Dave Munday and Swanny powering on, ably assisted by H on his winter bike already looking ominously comfortable on his return to racing.   A bit of traffic on the start/finish held up the scratch group which had been joined by Mick Sherwood by this point, but they’d already conceded a further minute to the Munday/Swanny train by this time.

15K’s later, the train had swallowed up the rest of the field although H had been replaced by younger brother Sam in the lead group to complete a Munday 1-2 with Swanny grabbing 3rd, just 39 seconds ahead of the Hoskings, who hung on bravely to finish 10s ahead of the closing scratch group of Sam Jenner, Blanchy and Johhny who’d found their form on the last 25%.

Thanks to Mick Hoult for being on sign duty and for recording times and places in his best handwriting – much appreciated!
