No, it’s not 60’s Mowtown but rather a reference to Armidale Cycling Club riders who continue to be in the news in Australia and on the other side of the world.

Over in Manchester on day one of  the UCI track world cup series, Mitch Bullen fought hard with Daniel Ellis (ACT) and Matthew Glaetzer (SA) in the mens team sprint and recorded a time of 43.845secs to finish in fifth place.  The trio missed the bronze medal ride by just two one-hundredths of a second.  In the mens sprint Mitch’s qualifying time was good but he didn’t progress in a fierce round where only the first 16 out of 41 went though and nine riders clocked under ten seconds in the flying 200m sprint qualification.  Glaetzer made it through but clashed with Shane Perkins (VIC) in the quarter final, Perkins going on to take bronze.

Mitch is back in action at the 2014 Oceania Track Championships held in Invercargill, NZ later this month chasing crucial UCI world championship qualification points – good luck Mitch!

Back in NSW, the Cycling NSW 2013 Masters Club Shield has been awarded to Lidcombe Auburn CC who beat 51 other clubs to win the 6th edition of the award covering ITT, criterium and road races. Armidale finished a very respectable 19th place overall, including joint 12th in criterium and 15th in the time-trial final standings.  Well done to Col Maciver and Jo Wauch for flying the flag for Armidale Cycling Club and bagging a hat full of medals in the process, and I think at least one other person contributed to a handful of those points in the MM6 ITT so put me right there please.  Tamworth finished 14th overall and Coffs Harbour 23rd.
