The results from Round 1 at Tamworth have now been made available and are posted on an overall standings page which we’ll update with each leg of the series.
Round 1 was held on the 40K Loomberah Hall circuit on a breezy day after the Armidale leg had been postponed the week before due to heavy rain. The Tamworth race was well attended with 32 riders rolling up for a self-selected handicap race with 6 groups started at 4-minute intervals. The self-selection process seemed to work well and in the main the groups stayed together working as effective units but the gaps were probably a little bit big towards the back of the race and as a result the 12, 16 and 20-minute groups navigated the circuit without ever getting within striking distance of each other.
At the pointy end however things were a little more exciting and the Go, 4-minute and 8-minute groups ultimately were contesting the places. In a very equitable finish, Peter Baz took a fine victory for Inverell with Jess Saunders from Tamworth second and Armidale’s Richard Wilkinson grabbing third. Wilfried Keller (Armidale) and Darren Croft (Inverell) wrapped up the bonus points to leave Armidale at the top of the ladder with 23 points from Inverell on 18 and Tamworth on 16.
Thanks to Tamworth for putting on and running the race – it was great to see so many riders turn out – and hopefully we can get even more this weekend at Inverell for Round 2. In case you haven’t seen them, there are some cracking photos available online, courtesy of Shot by Gav.
