Sam Jenner (A-Grade), Holly Harris (B-Grade) and Dave Jenner (C-Grade) became champions of their respective grades on Saturday with Sam also crowned as overall 2014 ACC Club Champion for the second year running.
Following the abandonment of the original championship event run in June this year due to torrential rain, the long-awaited Part 2 finally arrived and the weather gods were much kinder this time round. Sam had previously won the ITT in convincing fashion and short of a solo break by one of the A-grade riders who’d competed back in June, he already had one hand on the trophy as the bunch rolled off up the Dangarsleigh Road course once again, this time under blue skies and sunshine for the 40km event. The outward leg was conducted at a good but steady pace although Jenner went off the front after the Monument and was allowed a 100m lead for about 10km until just before the turn. The 3km ascent from Salisbury Waters was where the fireworks were expected and the anticipation was evident at the foot of the climb, but although the pace was reasonably quick, nothing untoward happened and the bunch was still together until the Monument climb when Harrison Munday and Sam Jenner both went off the front, gapping the pack in fine style. The two NRS riders stayed away to the finish where H won by a bike length. The main bunch charged in 14s later with a well-contested sprint for third place just won by John Scott-Hamilton from Dave Munday and Ben Harris.
B and C-Grade races were run over 30k distance and were equally well-contested. Unfortunately some technical glitches meant we didn’t get any images (and therefore timing) for B-Grade although the results show that Phil Thomas just edged out Holly Harris (2nd) and Jeff Flatt (3rd). With Holly having beaten Phil earlier in the year in the ITT by less than 1 second thank goodness we had the official commissaire and his supercomputer on-hand to process the complex timing algorithm that was able to announce Holly as overall B-Grade champion. C-Grade was an equally close affair with Clint Bourke winning in a 3-way sprint finish from Dave Jenner and Hugh Munday. Again, results earlier in the year had gone the other way with Dave having won the ITT by 28s from Clint to give him overall victory in C-Grade.

It was great to have official vehicles out on the course and at the turn so a big thank you to Wilko, Ray, Deb and Karlee McMillan for all their efforts on the day.
