More Gold for Maciver

He’s done it again – following up on his triple gold medal haul at the NSW State Masters last weekend, Armidale’s Col Maciver has won two more gold medals and a silver at the 2014 National Masters in Ballarat over the last 3 days.

On Thursday, Col won the individual time trial in the Mens Masters 9 category with a time of 28m:35.61s for the 20K course – averaging 42.0kph. He then just got beaten into second place in the criterium on Friday in a race which was scheduled to be 30 mins plus 2 laps but for which the last lap bell rang after 25 mins meaning Col’s tactics to blunt the sprinters with a pacy last couple of laps couldn’t be put into action.

And finally, this morning Col won the Mens Masters 9, 54k road race after what is becoming a trademark solo break away. Col was in a combined Masters 8,9 and 10 event and was actually second over the line out of the entire group, behind MMAS8 winner Ross Hodgson from Sydney, and 39s clear of his nearest MMAS9 rival.

These results (2 golds and 1 silver) at National level on the back of the clean sweep at the State Masters last weekend (3 golds) are a fantastic achievement – chapeau to you Colin Maciver – from everyone back home in Armidale!
