The 2015 Northwest Interclub Tour got off to a flying start yesterday in fantastic conditions. 25 riders made their way to the Moore Creek course in Tamworth for a fast and furious 36.5k handicap race. Allan Partlin (Tamworth) came home first in a close sprint from Richard Wilkinson (Armidale) and Fletcher Partlin (Tamworth).
As riders were competing for overall tour GC places as well as honours on the day, there were some good battles down the line with just 17s splitting the first thirteen riders. Although they averaged over 43kph, the Scratch group didn’t catch the bunches ahead and Dan Wilks (Inverell) was the first of the Scratch and Block riders over the line, 1m:33s in arrears on the handicap winner Allan Partlin.
See below for Round 1 results and note that we also have a full 2015 Northwest Interclub Tour page up and running which shows the overall position after the first round. Armidale leads the Club Trophy competion but only by two points from Tamworth. With a long drive for their riders, Inverell didn’t fare so well in the Club competition but Dan Wilks more than made amends for that with a powerful ride off Scratch to win Fastest Rider on the day and lead the Adjusted Time GC competition from Ash Smith (Tamworth) and Sam Munday (Armidale).
Many thanks to Tamworth for pulling the first round together at short notice and with limited club members available. With a welcome BBQ, drinks and even a portable toilet, the bar has been set high for the next round in Armidale on Saturday 29th.
