Mitchell Bullen topped a great weekend at the 2016 Oceania Track Championships in Invercargill, New Zealand, claiming the bronze medal in the keirin on the back of a 6th place in the mens sprint. With 3 of the 4 top sprint riders in the world present, there was a fantastic field of talent on show. Matthew Glaetzer, already the holder of the second and third fastest times for the flying 200m in history, recorded the fastest ever time on New Zealand soil at 9.797secs.

Glaetzer carried his form into the keirin to claimed the sprint-keirin double with a powerful ride in the final. Mitch was looking good with 2 laps to go but got boxed and had to settle for third behind Simon Van Velthooven of New Zealand.

Since becoming Australian Sprint Champion in 2013, Mitch has now been in every keirin final at the Australian and Oceania Championships and he has medaled in all but two of these. With more world cup events scheduled in November, December and January, and the Australian and World Titles in January and February, we will hopefully see more of our great local talent on the world stage very soon.  Great riding Mitch!
