Saturday Criterium Results

Theron and Jacqui King kindly stepped in for son Sam on the weekend to run the criterium at the TEC. Sam was down in Victoria in welcome cooler weather punching along the MTB trails in Round 5 and 6 of the XCO National Series where Holly Harris had an incredible weekend winning both Elite Women’s races. Thanks for running the race King’s and for providing these results!

It was a very hot afternoon and both Theron & didn’t really expect anyone to turn up. But of course one by one they started to roll in and in the end there were 15 in total. Due to the temperature moving closer towards the high of 37 they predicated for the day we decided to do just one crit race with A & B grade instead of the planned Elimination and Scratch races. A grade would do a reduced time of 25min + 3 with B grade 20 mins + 3.  A grade started first and for those of us on the side line it was nice at least to have the shade shelter offering a bit of respite from the heat.

Both A & B grade stayed in their groups for most of the race, with only small surges here and there. PC ended up retiring just before the 20 mins due to the heat followed then by Joshua Magennis (visitor from Port) and then Wilfred. The rest of the field completed the race with B grade finishing first:

  1. Clint Bourke
  2. Richard Wilkinson
  3. Rob Tindale
  4. John Scott-Hamilton
  5. Dene Bourke
  6. Jason Simmons
  7. Chris Stace

In A Grade there was a sprint to the finish and there was nothing in it between David and Hugh on the line:

  1. David Cook
  2. Hugh Munday
  3. Kirky
  4. Mick Hoult
  5. Josh Denham finishing out the group.

There were a lot of red faces at the end but the group were glad to have raced so they could go off and have the icy cold drink they deserved.
