Sam and Dave Munday chose Canberra’s 2017 Capital Tour over an ACC 30km handicap on Dangarsleigh this weekend and chose well.
Sam was one of 60+ starters in A-Grade for the two day event and didn’t disappoint. He placed consistently throughout, 15th in the Road Race, 12th in the Kermesse and 15th in the Criterium giving him an overall 15th in GC.

Dave found himself at the top of the podium after winning the 50-strong, C-Grade Road Race on Saturday morning. He was then a marked man in the Kermesse that followed that afternoon but managed to finish 7th there and retain the overall GC lead by 20s.

The following day was a different matter in the Criterium. Everyone was attacking him and the windy conditions made for some tough racing. With a few laps remaining he was still holding onto 1st in GC but then 2nd placed Harry Bryant of Bathurst CC launched one final attack and it stuck. He collected a 20s time bonuses for 1st place which, combined with an extra sprint bonus was enough to push Dave down into 2nd place overall.

Great to see Armidale represented in the nations capital, and with the pair planning more racing soon, this is unlikely to be the last time we celebrate success in the Munday family!
