Sam Jenner has been crowned 2017 Armidale Cycling Club Individual Time Trial Champion after a well-contested event on Saturday afternoon.
Rain threatened to spoil the party but things stayed dry under grey skies. Riders were kept a minute apart on the 25km Dangarsleigh out-and-back course with blustery southeasterly winds making conditions challenging, particularly on the outward leg.

With an even split between those on TT bikes or clip-on TT bars and those electing to go with a conventional setup, it was a good contest and there were some impressive results. Not surprisingly, current U23 National Road Race Champion, Sam Jenner stole the show with a blistering ride that brought him home in 35:54 at close to 42kph. Mick Hoult pushed hard however, finishing just 1m:06s down and Andy Robb continued to impressive in this discipline taking third with a 38:15.
In the Men’s 2 contest (Masters 5+) Phil Thomas powered to victory, looking and sounding the part with a 39:18 to overcome last years champion Col Maciver by 50 seconds. Notably, Phil’s time also secured him 4th place overall.
Jo Wauch collected the Women’s 2 title for the second year running and Tom Simmonds won the Junior Men’s title.
Congratulations to all our winners and especially to our overall champion Sam who hopefully will be around next weekend to battle for a 5th successive Club Champion title.
Thanks to Wilf for putting the signs out and for running the race with Peter Wilko and Many thanks to Swanny for bringing all the signs back in and for manning the turn in pretty miserable conditions, in particular allowing Keglegs to apply all his focus to wrestling the solid-wheeled monster safely through 180 degrees.
