Ahead of the Interclub Criterium Races on Saturday afternoon, Armidale Cycling Club held the third Come and Try Crits event at the Traffic Education Centre and it was another roaring success with over 50 people in attendance. 27 riders of all ages and abilities navigated the safe traffic-free circuit in the company of experienced club riders and coaches and there were plenty of smiles from everyone.
The objective of the day was to provide an opportunity for people to learn about criterium racing and to try it out on a small scale under supervised and safe conditions. Separate groups were formed based on experience and ability and within a short space of time, Mark Bullen and Chris Stace had them lapping the track, swapping turns and following a wheel like they’d been doing it for years.
It was great to see such a diverse range of riders out on the track and Armidale Cycling Club hopes it can continue to put on these types of events in the future. If you missed out this time, or if you were involved and want to do more then please keep in contact with the club.
Chris Stace is the club Development Officer and he can be reached on 0434 001 787 or via email at development@armidalecyclingclub.org
Many thanks to Chris and Mark for putting on the event and to all the club members who supported it. Most importantly, a huge thank you to everyone who has brought someone along or personally participated in any of the Come and Try events this season. It’s been a very successful initiative and hopefully there will be many more to come.
