There was strong representation from Armidale Cycling Club at the NSW Masters Road Championships over the weekend. Orange hosted the event which started on Saturday with the road race and was followed by a criterium on Sunday and ITT on Monday.
Andy Robb and Dave Munday competed in Saturday’s road race in Masters 4 and 5 respectively. Dave finished 7th in a 14-strong bunch sprint fighting for the win after a race where efforts to get away were repeatedly thwarted. Andy had a great race, finishing 16th but part of the bunch sprint jostling for 5th place overall, just 1m:20s down on the winning quartet who got away earlier in the race. Also in the road race, in Masters 6 were Phil Thomas and Andrew Swan. Phil finished 19th and Swanny 13th and just 32s down on the winning time of 1h:39m:52s.
Then on Monday, Andy and Phil raced again in the Individual Time Trial. Andy finished 9th in the 20.8k MMAS4 event with a 34m:32.39s and Phil took 5th place in MMAS6 with a 34m:34.05s. Also in Masters 4 was Michael Hoult who rode a blistering 32m:58.75s that saw him take 7th overall and In Masters 5, John Scott-Hamilton finished 5th with a 33m:53.62s
Congratulations to all Armidale riders – it’s great to have seen so many make the trip to Orange and everyone finishing in the Top 10 of the ITT is no mean feat!
