Making the Avengers Infinity War looks like a playground skirmish, Armidale Road Racer of the Year competition reaches its grand finale this weekend with a 30km showdown on the fast Dangarsleigh course. And its all to play for with a number of riders in contention to take out this prestigious title, and with it Galactic supremacy.
Rumour has it that riders will stop at nothing in bid to take out the title. There are reports of current leader Rob Hale taking the week off work to dedicate himself to a punishing training block with the Gold Coast sporting elite; meanwhile Pat Ferris is smashing out MTB laps at UNE; Jonny & his trainer have been banished to the shed by his long suffering wife; Swanny has stopped posting any ride activity in a bid to hide his form; whereas Houlty has taken the opposite approach and is trying to intimidate his rivals by posting hour long rides with average speeds in excess of 58kmh!
And not content with last years triumph, outgoing champion Chris Stace is currently scouring the rulebook to find a clause that will bring him back into contention; suggestions of Formula 1 style double points for the final race have been actively mooted, but all requests for an emergency club meeting have been vigorously denied. Expect a fiery AGM this year.
Whatever the outcome, it is sure to be an exciting contest – make sure your legs are shaved, bottles are full, kit is aero, bike is tuned, and garmin’s are charged – we’re in the end-game now!
