Club TT Championship Race Report

A howling westerly wind could mean only one thing for this weeks club race – it was time for another TT, and this time it was the club 2020 ITT championship!

In spite of the extremely challenging conditions, there was a great turnout of 21 riders, including a record number of riders on specialist equipment with either aerobars clipped onto their road bike, or a full time trial rig. We also welcomed back Sam Jenner for his first club race of the year, and given Sams pedigree it meant the club regulars would have their work cutout.

The GO rider was Jo Wauch, and riders we then set off into the maelstrom at 1 minute intervals. As the last riders rolled down the start ramp, it became clear that Sam was on a flier, as he quickly mowed down his minute man on the descent to the monument, and quick gobbled up those further up the road. Houlty was also on a flier, and he turned the second fastest rider with daylight between himself and those chasing further back. It was also an impressive outward leg from Brent Weston who turned 4th fastest, and although he would fade a little on the return leg it showed some impressive form ahead of the 2021 TT season.

As riders hit the finish line, the clear winner was Sam Jenner, who barnstormed his was over the course at an average speed of 47kmh – great ride Sam! There was also a clear winner in second place, as Houlty took the “fastest Dad” title home nearly a minute ahead of those behind. And the last podium place had to be shared out as Phil Thomas and Andy Robb could not be separated as Phil powered home to a PB despite the challenging conditions – great work guys!

Holly Harris rode a great race on her road bike to take out the fastest female time, with Jo Wauch the second fastest female on her trusty TT rig. Kudos also to Jason Simmonds who pipped Pat Ferris for the fastest road bike time on the day.

Well done to all riders for competing strongly in really tough conditions, and congrats to our 2020 Club TT Champs Sam & Holly!

Thanks to Wilf for doing the signs, and Col & Wilf for running the race!
