Full results over the fold.
Saturday the 1st proved to be a hot day with temperatures hovering around the thirty degree mark. Club President Andrew Swan and secretary Wilf Keller had organised a full days racing program including a time trial, handicap race and criterium suited to the available riders and conditions. The track continues to be a challenge with some of the recent repairs breaking up in the heat and leaving sketchy gravel on the crucial turns at the bottom of the course.
The events started with a time trial, Ultra Midget Josh Bible sent off first on a 1o” wheeled single speed, his little legs thrashing like a food processor as he tore up the track for scorching half lap times of 2:33 and 2:46, the heat eventually taking it’s toll.
A grade were up next, using the entire track. Ryan Harris recorded a 2:54, with both Tom and Sam Bible recording a 2:38 for equal first place.
B grade results: Sam King 2:24, Zyggy Cobcroft 2:21, Callum Godwin 2:07 and Lachie Harris 2:18, giving Callum the win with Lachie narrowly into 2nd place.
A grade results: Mick Harris 2:01, Adam Bourke 1:55, Harrison Munday 1:44 and Hayden Freeman 1:52, clearly having recovered completely from his crash on Long Swamp a month ago.
The next event was a handicap race. A grade ran for 3 laps with Sam Bible taking 1st place, Ryan Harris in 2nd and Tom Bible in 3rd. B grade contested a 5 lap race won by Lachie Harris from Zyggy Cobcroft and Callum Godwin. C grade raced for 6 laps with Hayden Freeman winning in front of Adam Bourke and Mick Harris.
The final criteriums saw Sam Bible win A grade from Tom Bible with Ryan Harris in 3rd. B grade was won by Callum Godwin, Lachie Harris in 2nd and Zyggy Cobcroft in 3rd. A grade saw Adam Bourke beating the heat and a class field to take out first place, with Hayden Freeman narrowly beaten into 2nd and Mick Harris 3rd.
Thanks should go to the McMillan family who supplied a vast array of cakes, lollies, chips and much needed cold water as well as helping with the time keeping and the track sweeping.
A desultory seniors criterium was held afterwards, with John Scott-Cannibal sprinting away from Dave “Fingers” Rugendyke for the win.
