This year, our New England expatriate Ben Harris rode out of his skin to finish in some ridiculously high position as part of the 3-day 2017 Velothon Sunshine Coast. He was even interviewed by a television crew and his smiling face beamed around the world as the poster boy of Velothon Australia.
Ben is already keen to come back and do even better in 2018 and the good news is that entries open on Thursday 21st September – less than 1 week away! Set over 3 days with 361 km of riding, 5,340m of climbing and the option of team or solo entry, it sounds like a fantastic way to escape the Armidale winter and catch up with old Diesel.
King of the Mountain and Sprint stages all combined with a perfect riding climate and sublime scenery
Here’s what they say about the event on the Velothon Sunshine Coast Website
We’ve taken what we think are the best elements of a Gran Fondo style race and transplanted this format in to the winterless Sunshine Coast. Fantastic roads and routes, managed roads, King of the Mountain and Sprint stages, all combined with a perfect riding climate and sublime scenery. Off the bike every ride starts and finishes in and around the Maroochydore area, with a dedicated Velo Clubhouse right on the river at Cotton Tree Park, Maroochydore. Open throughout each day and in to the evening for riders, friends and family to relax and share in the experience.
Entries go extremely fast so start your planning now!
