Mitch Bullen has recently returned from a tough week of racing at the Australian Senior Track Championships, held in Adelaide from 3 to 8 February 2009.
The event was held in the middle of one of Adelaide’s worst ever heat waves, with temperatures in the mid 40’s outside, and up to 39 in the indoor velodrome where the competition was held.
Mitch’s first event was the U19 men’s sprint, where he was knocked out in the quarterfinals. He then rode in the race for 5th to 8th places, and although he finished first, was relegated to last place for a technical infringement.
In the Keiren, Mitch made it through the qualifying rounds, winning his heat in round 2 to make the final. Against some very fast competition, he finished in 5th place in the final.
Mitch’s final event was the team sprint, in which he was part of the NSW team which won a silver medal, coming in second to the very strong Victorian team.
All up this was a very good performance for Mitch, who was competing at this level for the first time. Well done Mitch!
