Six eager riders arrived to start the junior championships on a hot Saturday afternoon.
After the group did a warm up lap and had a drink, we started the afternoon with an ITT. We had new PB’s from Bella Page, Oliver Belson, Thomas Singleton & Bernard May with Thomas Page & Richard May coming close to their PB’s. Medals were decided for those who either beat, equalled or better their PB’s. Gold went to Bella, Oliver, Thomas & Bernard.
Our next event was the Madison, with the riders placed into 3 teams of 2. The riders were set the task of riding together with 1 rider pulling off at the end of 1 lap. The first group was Richard May & Oliver Belson followed 30 secs later by Tommy Page & Bernie May; then 30 secs after was Bella Page & Thomas Singleton. The end result was the duo of Richard & Oliver coming in first (Gold medal), Bella & Thomas coming in second (silver medal) with Tommy & Bernie in third (bronze medal).
After a refreshing drink to keep the fluids up, the group were split in 2. This event was the handicap races. The first group was Tommy Page, Bella Page & Richard May doing 5 half laps (no hill involved) for their handicap race, with Oliver, Bernie & Thomas watching in the shade. This handicap race ended with Richard May in first (gold), Bella Page coming second (silver) & Thomas Page in third (bronze). The next group was Oliver Belson, Bernard May & Thomas Singleton and their handicap race was 4 full laps of the track. The riders all started off together (along with the seniors that arrived for support) with the final lap to be the decider. This race ended with Bernard May in first (gold), Oliver Belson in second (silver) & Thomas Singleton in third (bronze).
