It currently looks like it will be some time before we can resume our usual outdoor Saturday junior cycling riding. Because of this a number of parents & juniors have expressed interest in the possibility of an online meetup for juniors on the Zwift platform. So, we will be giving this a try starting this Saturday 2nd May – here are the important details you need to be able to participate.
1. Make sure you have a suitable trainer – see THIS post for more details
2. Setup a Zwift account for your child – this currently FREE for under 16 riders on Zwift – for details click HERE
3. When setting up your account please put ACCJNR at the end of the profile name so we can identify local riders on course and in the results eg. John Smith ACCJNR
4. Once registered on Zwift the junior account needs to follow the ride organiser so they can be invited to the meetup – to do this you need to install the Zwift Companion app on a mobile device/tablet, login with the junior account, and follow Andy Robb ACC – see a video on how to do this HERE
The schedule for this Sat will be as follows:
1pm: 20 min Group ride with a senior ride leader – this will use Zwifts “keep-together” functionality which keeps the group together while riders can ride at their own pace. Parents are also welcome to join if they have a spare trainer!
1.25pm: ~5km race – we will aim to use the same circuit each week so although juniors will be racing each other we will publish the times so they can try and beat their time each week. We will also live-stream the junior race on Twitch so anyone can watch and the footage will be available afterwards for the juniors to watch themselves – stream link HERE
There will be a separate meetup for both events – juniors can ride one or both as they prefer. Invites for the meetups will be sent out on Thursday, but if juniors get signed up after then they can be added to the meetup no problem once they are following the rider organiser.
This first week will be a trial run – so all feedback welcome on the format and potential improvements.
Look forward to seeing you Saturday!
