Peter Creagan showed us why he’s one of the cleverest handicap riders in the club with a closely fought victory over a tight bunch including Nick Myhill, Bob Murison and Chicka Russell. Nick demonstrated to us that talent is worth 4:1 training effort by his own admission.
Peter started with a large bunch at the 7 minute mark, which included club stalwarts Wilf Keller, Bob Murison (the architect of many handicap victories), Nick Myhill, Chicka Russell and a gaggle of NIAS hopefuls including Taylia Hough, Bonnie Miller, Zac Sunderland, Adam Bourke and Gav Wilson. The four seniors proved unbeatable as they tore through the 4 minute starters, only Dene Bourke and Jacketless Mick Sozou able to hold their determined pace. First Mick, then Dene dropped off the back as the four worked as a team to finish mopping up the race and sprint for the finish.
Ride of the day was Jackie Weston, who started by herself at the head of the race and stayed away from all but the first four place getters from the 7 minute bunch. Dene Bourke continued this years terrific form with a fighting 6th place, with the A grade riders hard on his heels. Fastest time of the day went to John Scott-Cannibal with a 54.48 for the 35km race, Brent Weston matching everything but the final sprint to come home with a 54.49.
Everybody else: nowhere!
