If you haven’t ridden in a bunch before it can be quite intimidating but everyone has to start somewhere and the Tuesday and Thursday night development rides are a perfect place to start. The development rides are for inexperienced riders and are a “no drop” ride, which means the group will wait for you (even if you get a flat or fall off the back of the group). You don’t need a racing licence or to be a member of the Armidale Cycling Club to ride in the development group…you just need to be capable of riding a distance of 30km within a time of at least 1 hour and 15 minutes or so. The rides provide a great opportunity to chat to more experienced riders if you are working on improving your riding skills, speed and techniques in a low pressure environment. Oh, and lycra is optional!
Development rides depart from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Dangersleigh Road at 5.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday. All you need is your road bike, a helmet and a drink bottle. Contact Chris Stace on 0434 001 787 for more information.
