Harrison “H” Munday and Greg Manttan beat Col Maciver in the A grade Long Swamp scratch race.
In B grade, Ross Burgess won out over Peter “PC” Creagan and Dene Bourke, while in C grade the ladies rode off into the sunset with Freya Weston beating Georgie Harwood and Jackie Weston. I wish I could tell you what went on but I didn’t see much of my own race, let alone the A and B grade races.
I can tell you a bit of what happened in A grade. 15 riders lined up for probably one of the fastest scratch races ever on long swamp (39kmh av). Things got strung out at the end of the first lap but most riders got back on at the neutralised turn. John Scott-H was dropped by a mile here but amazingly TT’d his way back on.
Last time up Imbota the pressure was really on from H, Sam J and Greg. Six riders got away here but again John rode everyone back on (great ride). Then on the tough finish the strong legs showed, and apart from the place getters, Sam, Ben Harris, Kirkie, John, and Dave Munday were all up there. Really good effort by all those riders and an excellent race.
Someone in B grade said Rosco didn’t do many turns on the front except for hitting everyone on the climbs. But it was probably just sour grapes and it was no doubt also an excellent race.
