On a cold & damp New England autumn day, a strong south westerly breeze made for tough racing conditions, and had riders thankful that they were only riding 30km instead of the additional 200km that the G2I riders suffered through the same day!
A suitably parsimonious race report was submitted by Col:
<In a nutshell, it was a great ride by the trio Angus Apps, Katherine Hosking and Alex Thomas working really well together to just hold off the charging back markers. End of report.>
I’d like to add from afar that there was some terrific handicapping from Col, which as you can see from the above photo (thx Pete Hosking) saw Scratch & Block riders Mick Harris and Pat Ferris come within meters of making the catch at the finish line, and it was an outstanding effort from the lead trio to hold them off! Well done to Katherine on a well deserved victory, with congrats also going to Angus and Alex for taking out 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
I’d also like to add massive congratulations to the ACC riders who took on the mighty Grafton 2 Inverell race at the weekend, and who had to battle a westerly headwind for the entire race. Well done to Dave Munday who raced in Division 2 and came a hugely respectable 37th in a time of 7:35:22. Jason Simmonds, Pete Harris, Paul Williams & Mick Hoult raced as a team in Division 3, and with 3 riders finishing in the lead group in a time of 7:47:24 and Houlty coming in just 52 seconds back after doing his usual mountain of selfless work, they took out 1st place in the team competition, with Jason coming in 2nd place in the final sprint. Chapeau guys!!!!
Thanks to Haydo for putting out the sign and running the race with Col. Next weekend we’re back on Boorolong for round 3 of RROTY.
