Turning up the Heat at the TEC

The Armidale Cycling Club Junior Championships lived up to their billing today, providing a sporting feast at the TEC criterium track today with PB’s being smashed by a number of riders.  On a hot day with the temperature nudging 34 degrees Hugh Munday came out on top as A Grade winner and overall Junior Club Champion – well done Hugh!

Riders were split into 3 grades with each grade competing in time trial, criterium and a 1-lap wheel race while the senior riders, still recovering from a rather chaotic criterium of their own, looked on from the comfort of the shady sidelines.

Runner up to Hugh was David Cook who recorded a smoking 1m:50s in the time-trial but couldn’t quite hang onto the hard-charging Hugh who is showing impressive sprinting ability.  In B Grade, ever-present Sam King just edged out Bella Hosking but both were well matched, recording ITT times within 6 seconds of each other, just on the wrong side of the magic 2-minute mark.  And in C Grade, Shaun Butler topped off a great season of riding with a fine win from young Zach Hale.

Well done to Hugh and congratulations to all riders who competed on the day with particular thanks to all the helpers and to the McMillan family who ran the championships in style once again with cup-cakes, sausages and lots of cold drinks!  Thanks to all the club riders who came along and cheered on our juniors in tough conditions and made it another memorable day.
