The Armidale Cycling Club calendar said Mixed Events for today so the plan was to have a quick 1-Lap ITT, followed by Graded Crit Races and maybe an Italian Pursuit to finish off. Unfortunately some big black clouds started assembling overhead bang on 4pm and by the time the crit was underway the rain started to fall and by lap 3 it became too heavy for safe riding.
We did manage to squeeze in 6 minutes of time-trialing beforehand however with a great result for Clint Bourke who punched out a 1:46.05 to grab 4th spot and nice to see Rhys Williams wind those legs up to record a 1:47.66 and claim 6th. Sam Jenner cruised round to record a 1:38.09 – and no doubt that little bit of extra high intensity training will make all the difference when he competes in the track nationals at the end of the month…
With heart rates still high, a single graded criterium race got underway immediately after the time trial with guidelines to regroup after the intermediate sprints and we did get one of those over and done with before the rain. Clint continued his ITT form with a win from Captain Creagan and Rhys Williams.
Highlight of the day for the author was watching Swanny clear debris from the track with his petrol leaf blower in full racing gear. Watch this space for an imminent caption competition…
Thanks to everyone for coming along despite the looming clouds at the start. More TEC fun next week, hopefully without the rain, and don’t forget to check out our Results Service database which now has over 800 individual rider results from 2014 onwards.
