Persistance paid off for junior Armidale Cycling Club member Sam King yesterday when he finally cracked the 2 minute Individual Time Trial barrier at the TEC. It has been a long time coming but Sam’s 1m:58s time earned him plenty of smiles and cheers and most importantly, the club jersey, which goes to all juniors who get under 2 minutes for the 1.2k circuit from a standing start. Given that plenty of senior race laps are in the 1m:50’s this is no mean feat and a great achievement for Sam.
David Cook also continues to impress with a 1m:55s and Lucy Cook and Jacqueline Tracey are homing in on the magic 2-minute mark too – recording a 2:20 and 2:21 respectively yesterday.
Congratulations to Sam King and all our junior riders – keep it up!
Many thanks must also go to Karlee and Deb McMillan who encourage and coach our junior riders week in and week out playing such a vital role for the club in building a sustainable membership for our future. This week it was great to see Mark Bullen also on hand to help with skills training, road positioning and sprint techniques on the long straight.
If you, or anyone you know of is interested in developing their bike handling skills, or wishes to try out cycling on a closed, safe, traffic-free circuit then either come along to the Traffic Education Centre at the eastern end of Mann St at 1pm on Saturday afternoons. Check out our Club Information page or get in touch with the club for further details – everyone welcome!
