Many thanks to Richard Wilkinson for not only taking care of the signs and running the weekend racing, but also capturing and calculating all the results and even doing the write-up below! Great to see Round 1 of the Road Racer of the Year competition underway in 2016 with our female club riders already dominating and holding the top 3 places.
In glorious autumn weather, 18 riders turned out to take advantage of the sunshine while others were also out at the Piney for the 12 Hour mountain bike race. And with Col giving more than his usual time to come up with the correct handicaps, some were getting edgy.
Jacqui King got the nod to start proceedings followed by the 3-minute group of Jacqui Munday, complete with Munday race face, and Ayllie Allen who looked like she could be an Olympic contender, both under the guidance of Pommie (bettter known as Peter Wilko). Next up were Dave Jenner and Wilfried Keller off 7 mins, though Wilf and Dave both opted for a 5 second reduction in this time. It was duly noted by the handicapper – look out next week.
The big group of the day ff 10 mins included Alex Thomas, Ben Livings, Billy Mara, Clint and Dene Bourke, Lachie McPhie and Tom Simmonds, followed by Hugh Munday and Phil Thomas off 12 mins, then Mick Hoult off 14 mins with Dave and Sam Munday off 15 min.
The timekeeper was not sure what went down out on the road but the finish line was an interesting place. Alex Thomas retired indicating that his body was not up to the bike and Billy retired a short time later with a similar response. Ayllie Allen came across the line in 55:14 to win with the speed of an FA18 Hornet followed by Jacqui King and Jacqui Munday sprinting for 2nd and 3rd positions. Not sure what happened to Pete, but he was some distance behind in 4th place. He did not indicate whether it was chivalry or the fact that the girls were just too hot on the day. Well done ladies.
Next in was a large bunch headed by Dave Jenner with an impressive sprint to the line, followed by the two Bourkies, young Tom Simmonds, Lachie McPhie, Wilfried Keller, Sam Munday, Dave Munday, Mick Hoult and Hugh Munday then a break to Ben Livings and Phil Thomas taking up the rear. Phil did not indicate what happened but the timekeeper did consult with the handicapper on his behalf. Sorry Phil, the response was not favourable.
Sam just pipped dad Dave for fastest time of 44:04, average speed just a shade over 4okph. Thanks to all who turned out for a great afternoon of racing.
Thanks again for your work this weekend Wilko, you receive 4 RROTY points as reward for your efforts! These results have now been loaded into the Race Results database which also feeds the Road Racer League Table, and next week we stay with RROTY but switch to Boorolong for Round 2 at 2:30pm on Saturday.
