That man Colin Maciver has done it again at the 2016 Masters Road National Championships in Griffith on the weekend, coming away as the Mens Masters 9 Overall Champion courtesy of a Gold in both the Road Race and Time Trial and just narrowly being beaten into second place in the Criterium.

In the 51km, 3-lap Road Race Col managed to create a breakaway with two other riders up the hill on the second lap and they worked to build a commanding lead of over five minutes but lost all of that as they slowed to a walking pace in the last 3kms. Clearly determined not to lead them out, Col ended up in an uphill bunch sprint and just edged out Darrell Wheeler (Duboo) for victory.

In the Criterium, Col was once more in attacking form and with Wheeler for company again they lapped the field but this time the Dubbo rider was stronger at the finish, Col settling for second place by one second. The Individual Time Trial took place in very windy and uncomfortable conditions. In Col’s words it was “just a hard effort” although judging by his time, he coped better than the competition, finishing the 18km course in 26:28s, almost a minute ahead of second-placed John Horsburgh (Peloton Sports). That time would have put him in first place in the Masters 8 and second in the Masters 7 race, further evidence of what a strong rider he is and one who continues to defy the years with another highly impressive performance.  Congratulations Col!
