Many thanks to Wilf Keller for providing the following results and write-up for the Easter Criterium race held at the TEC last Saturday.
12 riders turned up for a bit of relaxed Easter competition at our Crit track, including Fletcher Partlin from Tamworth. He and his dad were going to check out the Invergowrie Road Race route on their way home. All but Col (his reason will become obvious…) and Billy begged to do a one-lap sprint – the results were:
[table id=199 /]
(I should have noted tenths and hundredths of seconds to avoid the shared positions…)
Thanks to Jacqui for timing and Theron for excellent holding. Dene practised his Bullo-approved start and probably lost 5 seconds by going several metres back up the track – much to Theron’s surprise and shock.
The main event saw one group head off on a 30-minutes- plus- three- laps pedal and the pace was on from the beginning – Holly determined to get the maximum training out of the afternoon. Jo missed the start and spent the rest of the race playing catch-up, joined now and again by a late-arriving Billy until he decided to call it quits and head off for a more leisurely 100k ride home.
The lap times hovered consistently around the 1:50 mark, making it very difficult for any surge/break to succeed. Sam tried several times to attack up the hill and thought he nearly made it, but the peloton stayed focused, left him out to enjoy the view from the front and easily reeled him in again. Alex King expertly indicated the final three laps and Swanny attacked one last time right on the line for the final lap, but all riders were together again going up the hill. Col emerged first at the top of the straight and powered away to a convincing win, followed by Clint just edging out Richard. The average was a very respectable 39.3kph.
Col waved his prize of a chocolate Easter bunny in triumph, some easter eggs were handed out and Swanny gave us a little talk about safe riding techniques before we were all dismissed.
Next weekend’s race is the inaugural Dangarsleigh-Fleche with the finish up the mythical Muur de Mihi – don’t miss it!
