With the Club Championships complete, the racing season is drawing to a close. But there’s time for one last “Monument” of 2018! Loosely modelled on the classic end of season race-of-the-falling-leaves Il Lombardia, the club proudly brings you Il Dangarsleigh this Saturday 17th November.
As always the club brings its own twist to the local classics, and as we constantly strive to make a bigger, better and more thrilling contest, we are introducing time bonuses to the handicap for heavier retro and mountain bikes. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to secure your handicap.
The course follows the tried & tested gravel parcours:

The race leaves from the usual Dangarsleigh Road location on the edge of town. From there riders race out on sealed roads to the Dangarsleigh Monument where they turn left and embark on the first 5 star gravel sector. They rejoin Enmore road via Black Lane, travel up to the 12.5km turn and then track back around 3km, before making a hard left into the other side of Black Lane for Sector 2. From there it’s briefly back onto Dangarsleigh Rd for another 2.5km, then left again, this time into Knobs Rd and Sector 3 before finally emerging back onto Dangarsleigh Rd for the last 2km sprint home.
All up there is 29km of racing with three gravel sectors totaling 14km. The race will be on whatever the weather – in the highly unlikely event of it raining on the day a bit of mud will only make things more exciting.
So, time to dust off the Reynolds-tubed specials that have been relegated to the back of the shed, or pop down to Bullos and check out the 2019 range of gravel bikes, and let battle commence!
