Another great result for Geoff, who was third in the NSW U23 Road Race Championships on the weekend (3 August). The race was run at Kurrajong to the north-west of Sydney, featuring five laps of a hilly course for a total distance of 165km. (According to Geoff, one of the climbs was as steep as Gordon Street but 4km long!)
The U23 and Elite divisions were combined, which had a significant bearing on the outcome. A break of five riders formed early in the race and the rest of the bunch elected not to chase. These were made up of four Elite riders and one U23, Richard Lang, who went on to win the division from the break.
Geoff and another U23 rider attacked with a couple of laps to go, managing to stay away and take second and third places. An exhausting race but a very pleasing result.
