It was a beautiful day in Tamworth last Saturday with some great racing – 10 Armidale riders made the trip down for the first leg of our interclub road race on Moore Creek Road. Andrew Kirk, John Scott-Hamilton and Andrew Swan lined up in A grade against a strong Tamworth group. Fraser Ashford blitzed the field to take the win from Ray Griffin, with Scott Thomson just pipping John Scott-Hamilton for third. Fifth place went to Mick Sherwood.
Tamworth also dominated B grade, filling the first four places (Brad Roberts first, Justin Brooks second, Dave Menzies third, and Matt Carrington fourth). Best placed Armidale rider was Rob Hale in fifth with Col Maciver, Lachie McPhie, and Rob Tindale not far behind.
We finally got a result in C grade, with Bourkey getting up for the win and Jack Parker in second, and Wilfried just out of the placings.
So after the first leg, the club point score standings are Tamworth 87, Armidale 34.
Obviously we have a lot of catching up to do. So even if you have misgivings about your current state of fitness, remember rule #5 and get out to Long Swamp Road for the return leg next Saturday! All finishers score a point for their club.
The format is a 30km scratch race. See you all there!
(And if anyone can knock up one of these, please bring it with you:)
