2015 Mt Yarrowyck Results

Dylan Sunderland decimated the field and the course record yesterday at the 2015 Mount Yarrowyck Races. The Inverell rider completed the 94k race in a time of 2h:16:22, winning by a margin of 46s from a strong second-placed Sam Munday (Armidale) and 2014 winner Ben Harris (Armidale) in third. Along with Sunderland, Mitch Carrington in fourth place was the only other rider figuring in the top 10 from the 7-strong scratch/block combo that finally caught a huge bunch with around 10K remaining. Having caught them, Sunderland then put more time into the entire field up the final climbs that comfortably gave him victory and fastest time on the day. Dion Wilkes (Grafton) rounded out the top places in fifth and fastest female on the day was Port Macquarie rider Deborah Hennessey who finished 15th overall.

The previous record for the course was set in 2012 when another Inverell rider, Ryan Thomas, stopped the clock at 2h:23:34. On Sunday, no fewer than 14 riders raced home inside that time. In total 54 riders rolled up for the 2015 races with great support from local clubs Grafton, Inverell, Tamworth, Murwillumbah and Port Macquarie. While the main event was underway, the 20k race was held and won by Armidale rider David Cook who chased down, caught and passed a 4-strong 6-minute group to post a winning time of 46m:26. In second place, just 17s down was Brooke Cameron (Tamworth), followed a further 17s later by solo scratch rider Hugh Munday (Armidale) who punched out a race time of 44m dead to claim third place and fastest time on the day.

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who contributed to a fantastic morning of racing in conditions that were actually pretty good despite the gloomy forecast. The SES did a wonderful traffic management job ensuring rider and spectator safety at the start/finish and turn and the officials Mark Bullen and Chief Commissaire Kevin Bartlett delivered an excellent race. Thanks also to the McMillan family and to Di Bullen for running the sign-on and organising prize money and to Ray Philips, Bob Murison and Luke Milan for running the SAG wagon. Finally, thank you to all the riders and their families and friends from across the region who came out to support Armidale Cycling club with a morning of friendly but highly competitive interclub racing.

Please support Tamworth Cycle Club in 2 weeks time and get your entries in for the 40k and 100k Nemingah to Nundle races on Sunday 17th May
