Sam Jenner Fundraiser

Armidale City Bowling Club was the place to be last night with 120+ people showing their support to raise funds for Sam Jenner ahead of his trip to the UCI World Road Championships in Richmond, USA next month. Ken McDonald ran what was probably the most challenging Trivia Night ever held with thousands of questions covering French postbox colouring through to 1860’s rock bands that no one except Kenny had ever heard of. It was a great night and showed yet again how the Armidale community can get behind a local hero to send them on their way in style.

We had a thoroughly professional line-up with Bullo on the microphone, Wilf running the lucky door prize and Haydo and Swanny slotting into their roles of official scorers with consummate ease. Despite constant bribing of officials, the Bourke table went home bankrupt and with the wooden spoon while Team Murison wiped the floor with their extensive knowledge of the inner workings of Kenny’s mangled brain.

Rhys and Rob hounded the entire audience with an endless supply of raffle tickets throughout the night culminating in a prize giveaway drawn by a very composed and relaxed Sam who is clearly ready for the big post-race press conference. The Jenner family were there in numbers and were clearly overwhelmed by the generosity of our great local community. Included in the crowd were their neighbours who suggested that when Sam does ultimately achieve his dreams he might fund a new garage roller door for his parents.  Apparently the current one is pretty noisy, particularly at 4:30am each morning when Sam heads out on his training rides!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along on the night and of course to all our local sponsors who gave generously  to the cause, including Armidale City Bowling Club,  Treasury Wine Estates, Armidale Bicycle Centre, SportUNE, Forsyths, New England Mutual and Dream Day Marquees.

And Good Luck next month from the wider Armidale community and beyond to you Sam and the Jenner family.
