This week we received the sad news that Bruce Buxton, a past member of Armidale Cycling Club, had passed away after battling cancer. We estimate that he was about 61.
Bruce was an enthusiastic and loyal member of ACC. Although he did not take cycling especially seriously, he was an excellent club man and ever reliable to put out signs, take on tasks, attend races and join TTT’s when invited.
Bob Murison recalls the privilege of riding with Bruce on many occasions as they usually shared the same mark. “He was so dependable and would always be plugging away at the end of 100kms, ensuring he took his turn on the front. He was adroit with his humour. In one away race, we were in a group of about 10 with 5 from Armidale. The non-Armidale riders were reticent to contribute to the work and as we gasped over the 5th hill, Bruce chimed in with ‘Nice riding from Armidale’.”
It is about 7 years since Bruce left Armidale but he is still fondly remembered and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.
