Jenner Laps Field at ‘Gong Crits

Sam Jenner was in blistering form at the MS Gong Elite Mens Criterium today, eventually finishing second to Cameron Ivory (GPM) in an enthralling race over the Wollongong Flagstaff Hill course. Just like he did in 2015, the Armidale NSWIS rider launched an early solo attack which was reeled in after a couple of laps only for him to go hard again shortly after, this time joined immediately by Ivory as NSWIS backed off to let others give chase. The pair worked well together and steadily drew away from the bunch, quite incredibly, lapping the whole field with 8 laps remaining.

The main field contested a bunch sprint for 3rd place with 3 laps remaining and then cleared the course for the two leaders to do battle for the win. It looked like Sam had played it perfectly, coming round Ivory on the fast downhill finish but the GPM rider had enough left to cut inside and just get to the line first.

The race was streamed live on the MS Gong Facebook Page and the full 52 minute replay still appears to be available here – well worth a watch – Sam’s second telling attack starts with 38 mins remaining.

And one final bit of extra good news – thanks to our Jenner-loving-Poplar tree, he should be back in town to defend his Club Champion title next weekend!
