Once again, the Armidale Cycling Club Annual Club Awards exceeded all expectations with a great turnout from members, family and friends at the Services Club last Sunday evening.  A comprehensive series of awards were handed out to the worthy winners after another excellent year of racing but not before they’d dazzled us with their bowling expertise on the square.

Fortunately most of the club members are better on two wheels than two feet as there was a lot of collecting of bowls from the gutter but there was the odd moment of magic to be seen if you looked hard enough, and waited patiently – very patiently in most cases. Johnny put an early bid in for the wheel award next year by managing to roll his ankle, but tough as ever he carried on despite what later turned out to be two broken bones. Deb Jenner looks to have some stern words with PC clearly caught on camera, requesting he leave the premises after Kirky set him up, replacing Deb’s special bowling balls with a couple of slightly underdone rissoles from the BBQ.*

Many thanks to Mark and Jock and the whole Bullen and McMillan families (and everyone else who helped out) for running the event which was a great success with food, drinks and festive cheer flowing throughout. Special congratulations to our overall 2016 Club Champion Sam Jenner and to all our winners and club riders, without whom none of this would be possible. We wish all riders a safe and relaxing holiday season, hopefully with just a little bit of social riding squeezed in there and look forward to another successful year of racing in 2017.

*This is a complete fabrication, there is not a single grain of truth in the story, but even though he’s hiding his head, Kirky does look guilty.
