Sam Jenner has secured a professional cycling contract with Mitchelton Scott, a new UCI Continental team which along with World Tour Team ORICA-SCOTT is part of GreenEDGE Cycling. Owner Gerry Ryan explains “The addition of Mitchelton-SCOTT continues to support our ambitions to foster the development of young Australian riders and also extends our support to the Australasian region for whom we represent with the UCI.”
Sam, clearly thrilled at the opportunity presented as a result of his hard work and determination said yesterday. “I’m excited to be joining the team and really happy to be part of what will be a very strong team. I am also looking forward to bringing across the national stripes and the results we can achieve as a team in 2017.”
The team signings announced this week place Australian under-23 road race champion Sam alongside a number of his Jayco Herald Sun Tour team mates including, Jai Hindley, Michael Storer and Lucas Hamilton who have had a stellar start to the 2017 season at the Road Nationals and Sun Tour. These riders further add to a strong contingent of young riders announced at the launch of the team last month.
“Along with outstanding results over the Australian summer, and the earlier announced signings of Robert Stannard and Harry Sweeny, this team will head to Europe with enduring confidence in their individual and cohesive abilities. “The progress of these exceptionally talented young men is on a trajectory of high expectation over the next years but I believe we have a well-grounded group who acknowledge that the hard work is still ahead.” said James Victor, Mitchelton-SCOTT head sport director.
The racing program for Mitchelton-SCOTT will be confirmed in the coming weeks with an impressive current full Mitchelton-Scott team for 2017 now including Lucas Hamilton, Wenhu Hi, Jai Hindley, Samuel Jenner, Hao Liu, Chenlu Qin, Robert Stannard, Michael Storer, Harry Sweeny, Sun Xiaolong, Fuwen Xue, and Chaohua Xue.
