More Medals at NSW Masters RR Championships

Armidale riders were out in force on the weekend competing in the 2017 NSW Masters Road Race Championships. Jo Wauch and Col Maciver and were once again in the medals on the Saturday road race – Jo finished in the main bunch of the combined WMAS5+ race, just 2s down on Jennifer Massey to claim silver. Col went clear in the MMAS9 after a tough pursuit in the final lap with John Horsburgh to win by 43s and take gold. You can hear from Col in his post-race interview here.

Also racing on Saturday was David Munday who competed in the highly competitive MMAS4 event in a large field of 49 riders. Dave was in the small bunch chasing 4th place and attacked on the climb with 5km remaining only to be swamped by the specialist sprinters just 40m from the line still finishing a commendable 9th.

Then on Sunday in the criterium Jo backed up her road race, tussled once again with Jennifer Massey and took silver once again after finishing just 5s down on the combined WMAS5+ bunch. Col pulled away to once again outshine the competition, finishing a massive 1m:18s ahead of the second-placed rider.

Finally on Monday, Jo got her gold medal, winning the WMAS7 ITT in a time of 40m:48s. Also racing on the Monday was Andrew Swan who punched out a 35m:20s time in the MMAS5 to finish 12th and of course Col lined up once more to contest the TT and delivered once again to win the MMAS9 with a blistering 34m:36s. Just to put Col’s ride into perspective, that time would have placed him 1st in the MMAS8, 5th in MMAS7, 7th in MMAS6 and 11th in MMAS5 – all after the road race and criterium the previous days.

Congratulations to all our Armidale athletes for some fantastic results and for proudly promoting our club once again at state level.
